“Emergency statement from Doctors in Unite to Keir Starmer and David Lammy on the deliberate starving to death of Gaza’s children by Israel ^*.“

“This is an urgent appeal to all healthcare organisations and healthcare workers, as well as members of the public. Please co-sign this statement and email Keir Starmer and David Lammy. Children are starving to death.

As healthcare professionals and concerned citizens, we write with grave urgency about the catastrophic suffering in Gaza. The Ministry of Health has reported that at least 65 children have now died of starvation, and that a child dies every 40 minutes from starvation or through bombing.

These numbers are not abstractions. They represent infants too weak to cry, mothers cradling skeletal toddlers, and paediatric wards where every heartbeat is a battle against famine.

For 62 days, Gaza has been completely cut off from all aid – no food, no water, no medicines, no fuel. Nothing has been allowed in.

The consequences are relentless: a child dies every 40 minutes, while 10,000+ children suffer severe acute malnutrition and face imminent death. Pregnant women also endure catastrophic malnutrition, triggering premature births in unsanitary, collapsing hospitals.

Medical consumables, haemodialysis supplies, trauma & orthopaedic surgical materials and ophthalmic surgical supplies are almost exhausted. Without these, amputations and infections become death sentences, while children blinded by debris and are facing preventable, agonizing infections.

Fuel reserves will last 48 hours. When they run out neonatal incubators, dialysis machines, and operating theatres will shut down. 70% of subsequent deaths will be women and children, patients who could survive with basic resources.

This is not a natural disaster. This is a man-made famine, remorselessly enforced by Israel’s blockade of Gaza. How many more children must perish before the government acts? We implore the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary to demand that Israel lift the blockade and allows the immediate delivery of food, water, medicines and fuel to Gaza to save lives from starvation and disease.

These supplies are waiting on trucks just outside Gaza. The famine could be ended within hours if the Israeli military open the crossings.

This cannot be delayed. United Nations Security Council Resolution 2728, adopted on 25 March 2024 should be implemented, which demands an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. The UK should lead the international community in taking decisive action to guarantee the safety, dignity, and survival of all civilians in Gaza.

The world must act together, now. All military complicity must cease. UK weapons shipments enabling this carnage stain British hands with the blood of Gaza’s children. Previously unknown birth deformities are being seen in Gaza due to the use of new munitions. End the weapons supplies now.
